Emerson’s 2nd Birthday Party

First of all, I can’t believe my baby turned 2 last week. It really doesn’t seem that long ago that I went from being ticked at her for being 11 days late to elated that I was able to birth her naturally. I’ll always cherish the moment that she came out. It was seriously one of the highlights of my life, and she has been an enormous blessing ever since. I’ll be honest that I’m a little concerned about what her 2nd year will be like. She has an ornery side that is starting to come out, but we’re praying that the sweet heart that she has deep inside will prevail! I was just looking at her tonight as we put her to bed and thinking how beautiful she is – not just externally, although she is that. But she’s just got a beautiful little spirit that I think will be really amazing to watch as it matures.

We did a polka dot theme for her party, and we had a lot of fun with it. Here’s what we did:

 

We borrowed the lanterns from my good friend Brittney, and James and I spent 3 weeks cutting all those circles on the wall out of poster board.

 

All of the food was round. We made sandwiches and cut them into circles, grapes, chips and salsa, M&Ms, Oreos and of course the centerpiece which was the cake balls.

We did a full polka dot wall in the dining room for photos, and here’s the girls before the party. Birthday girl refused to smile, but how precious is her outfit?!

Crouchburger and Quinn worked on their Twister skills.

All of the kids were instructed to come in solid color shirts. Emerson and Ellie used garage sale dots to “dot” them upon arrival. Ellie was the dot police and made sure everyone had the correct color. We had the kids sit down so that sweet Kendall and Emery could be included in the photos without adults, so look closely to see their little dots! You can see that we did not succeed in getting everyone to smile, but I still think they’re all adorable. Quinn and his ladies!

We had each child pick a dot on the Twister mat, and Dad spun the wheel to see who would give Emma her next present. It turned out to be a fun little way to keep the kids from getting bored while Emma opened her presents.

Emerson did a great job of sitting in her chair and opening her gifts. The video below shows how excited she was at each gift. It was pretty cute.

And just two days later it was James’ birthday. Look how cute our brown polka dotted girls were.
